Kind Words from Clients
“Frances Hudgins took our back-of the napkin sketch, and made it into a beautiful, practical addition to our home. She talked with us at length about what we wanted, but also about how we live our daily lives and then she put that all on paper and built it. It was a 100-year old house, and Frances designed the new portion so that it can hardly be distinguished from the original. She not only brought a sense of place, but also honored ours. Frances has command of every trend of the moment, but understands that architecture comes from real places in history and culture, that proportion matters, that context matters, and that the things we build reflect our values. In the end her design for our house was beautiful, and practical and right for us and our neighborhood.”

"We came to Frances with a clear list of goals and objectives to describe our home and the lifestyle that we were seeking; we really enjoyed the “back and forth” exchange of ideas. Throughout the whole process, Frances allowed us to be very “hands on,” ensuring the plans would articulate what we wanted to be accomplished with the finished product.
It didn’t take long for us to develop a great working relationship. But since we were so involved with all the details, we think the biggest complement we could pay HDC is through the trust Frances earned from us to “site” the house on our property while we were out of town. Frances and our builder marked the corners of the property, allowing the foundation to be poured that week and get the construction started. We love the home, we really enjoyed designing it with Frances and we enjoy the best view on our side of the river!"
